Join me in this fun and interactive day-long experience where we explore music from this underrepresented community. Despite being the third-largest Asian subcategory (Budiman & Ruiz, 2021), the Filipino identity and their music are rarely represented in the curriculum (Coloma, 2013). Participants will learn about the rich culture, language, and history of the Philippines while engaging in some fun and exciting music activities. You are sure to receive new repertoire that will enhance and broaden your classroom experiences!
Come sing, arrange, and play!
This workshop will demonstrate how Orff instruments, arrangements, and singing games can be used to prepare, present, and practice musical elements in the Kodaly classroom. A teaching sequence for the soprano recorder will also be linked to sight singing resources that will help students become independent musicians.
Find the key for the door that leads us to the magical world of 'MUSIC' through the Kodály Way.
Develop your own musicianship and learn how to use the Kodály way in your own teaching.
Online Only
This workshop will cover instrument adaptations in correlation with adaptive notation, as well as avenues for communication such as AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). Participants will have opportunities to try different materials, instruments, and technologies as they apply to their classroom, with the focus given to creating adapted notations and communication boards through apps such as Musescore and ChatterBoards. Emphasis will be given to developing materials through the lens of Universal Design for Learning so that every student is engaged and empowered through their music education experience.
